AGA presents a night of classic cartoon comedy
Turn Friday night into Saturday morning with a screening of Warner Bros. favourites hosted by animation historian Gene Walz
EDMONTON, AB – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is excited to present The Warner Bros. Cartoon Film Night with Gene Walz on Friday September 10 at 7 pm in the AGA’s Ledcor Theatre. Re-discover your favourite cartoons and the characters that made them so memorable at this special screening presented in conjunction with The Art of Warner Brothers exhibition, on display at the AGA until October 11, 2010. Along with the cartoon viewing, enjoy a lecture by Gene Walz, animation historian and Professor of Film Studies at the University of Manitoba.

Born in Rochester New York in 1942, Gene Walz currently lives in Winnipeg where he teaches Film Studies at the University of Manitoba. His book Cartoon Charlie: The Life and Art of Animation Pioneer Charles Thorson won the Margaret McWilliams Medal for Popular History in 2000, and Manitoba’s Best Illustrated Book of the Year Award in 1999.
The Art of Warner Bros. features 165 drawings, paintings and animation cels used in the making of Warner’s classic cartoons. The exhibition explores seven different themes from a chronological history of the cartoon studio to the evolution of Warner Bros. first cartoon stars, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck; and an in depth look at Warner’s most famous creation, Bugs Bunny.
