Heritage Day is celebrated the first Monday in August in Edmonton. Monday, August 2, 2010
In Alberta, Heritage Day is an "optional" civil holiday, having been downgraded from a statutory holiday following the introduction of Family Day in 1990.
August long weekend is probably the busiest weekend at many hotels, resorts, campgrounds and on the highway. We highly recommend making advance reservations. It is a great weekend for camping, hiking, mountain biking, boating, rafting, kayaking, fishing, playing summer sports like beach volleyball, etc. Banks, schools, government offices and many businesses are closed. Service industries, shopping malls, restaurants and tourist attractions remain open. Click on date (above) to view all events today.
